Alcohol Licensing

Neil qualified as a solicitor in 1994 after graduating with honours from the University of Nottingham in 1991 and trained with a large commercial firm in Birmingham. In 1996, he left Birmingham to practise in Coventry, where he stayed for 20 years before returning to his Birmingham roots and he joined Coley & Tilley in June 2016.

In addition to Neil’s specialism in commercial property matters, Neil has many years’ experience advising on all legal and regulatory aspects of licensing law, and is himself the holder of a Personal Licence. Neil is pleased to help his clients with:

  • Applying for Personal Licences, Premises Licences and Club Registration Certificates
  • Transferring and Varying Premises Licences and Club Registration Certificates
  • Advice to those seeking to be a Designated Premises Supervisor
  • Advice on providing regulated entertainment and late night refreshment
  • Advice on allowing children onto licensed premises
  • Advice on the provision of smoking facilities outside licensed premises
  • Obtaining Temporary Event Notices

Neil’s clients include owners and tenants of public houses, restaurants, hotels, hot food takeaways, off licences and convenience stores and Neil can also advise on all aspects of commercial property law relating to such businesses.

Away from the office, Neil is a keen photographer and enjoys foreign travel (especially to Eastern Europe), following his beloved Aston Villa, and getting the most out of his Tastecard membership. Regrettably for now, foreign travel and following Aston Villa do not go hand in hand!

Neil is delighted to be practising back in his home City with Coley & Tilley and is looking forward to playing a full part in the local business community.
